Hello,
we are Jerry and Donna Young, and we celebrated our 46th wedding anniversary in June. We were married in WV where both of us grew up in Christian homes. I (Donna) came to know the Lord as my personal savior at a Christian camp as a child. Jerry accepted the Lord as a young adult. God’s hand of direction has been on our marriage from the beginning, a few days after our wedding we left for Germany where Jerry was stationed in the US Army. Our first Sunday in Germany we began to attended the base chapel where we soon meet a couple working with the Navigators (a ministry to servicemen). The wife began to disciple me and they both ministered to us spiritually. A few years after returning home to Charleston, WV another couple from the Navigator ministry moved to our area. Again, we were under their discipleship, which soon lead to our own desire to be involved with the ministry. In 1966 we moved to Norfolk, VA to work with the Navigators. Jerry’s tent making job was at NAS Norfolk (Naval Air Station) in the apprentice program as a jet engine mechanic. Two years later the Lord led our family, then including three-month old Jonathan, to Moody Bible Institute where Jerry entered the missionary aviation program. After Jerry’s graduation we stayed at Moody in order for me to graduate. At Moody, I served as president of the Moody Wives Guild, and attended evening classes.
After our graduation, instead of foreign missions the Lord led us to home missions, and Jerry served with Norfolk Christian schools for twenty-seven years as their bus mechanic. We welcomed our daughter Jeradawn into our family shortly after coming to NCS, and I have been blessed to be a stay-at-home mother. This privilege offered me opportunities of minister at NCS in many capacities over the years as both of our children started and finished school at NCS. I am glad the field trips in cramped school busses have ended, although occasionally I may still be found on a school bus accompanying a grandchild on a field trip.
Jerry and I were often called upon by the NCS administration to host new teachers, etc. Our son married one of the girls whose parents stayed with us while interviewing for a position at NCS. Over the years we have hosted many home bible study groups, and led marriage and financial classes. Our home has also served as a classroom for cake decorating, sewing, and knitting. Jerry has served as an elder at two different churches and gone on one mission’s trip. I have served the Lord in tiny ways too numerous to enumerate, but my present privilege is caring for my elderly home bound parents.
May God’s blessing lead you, and thank you for your interest in CCC.
